Also known as the Decorator Urchin since it often places algae, emptied shells, and rocks on its spines, known as its “covering behaviour”.
又有「裝扮海膽」(Decorator Urchin) 之英文俗稱；牠經常在牠的刺上放置藻類、貝殼和石頭「裝扮」，這行為稱作"Covering Behaviour" (意指「掩蔽行為」)
Its "decorating objects" are theorised to be used as camouflage or protection against environmental stresses.
有理論認為這些「裝扮物」能令雜色角孔海膽偽裝或抵禦環境威脅
