Its Chinese name “蠟燭果” (Candle Fruit) indicates its resemblance to the shape of a candle flame.

中文名為「蠟燭果」（Candle fruit），指其果實與蠟燭的火焰的形狀相似

Like Kandelia, this mangrove species is a true vivipary (fruits begin to develop before detaching from the parents) where the “candle-fruit” is the ready-to-grow drop-plantlet.

和秋茄一樣，桐花樹也是一種胎生植物：它的種子在果實未掉落前便會生長，而成熟到從樹上掉落的「蠟燭果」是已經可以獨立生長的幼苗
